My May - June Rides (Week 21)

Rides this week: 4

Miles this week: 93.33
Weekly Average: 2.8
Public transport days: 0
Oyster costs: £0.00

As Monday was a bank holiday 4 days of cycling equals 100%, so I am feeling fairly pleased; smug even.

Generally a very good week on the road. I think it is half term so the roads have been quieter. The weather has been dry and fine though a little on the windy side. And the wind is still cold.

As I have always said my commute is quality time as far as I am concerned, but sometimes I feel that I am missing something.

My ride seems to happen in total isolation. I really feel that I ought to try and just acknowledge other cyclists – the ones who are enthusiasts anyway. London is such a weird place when it comes to acknowledging fellow human beings.

Last night I set off for home at 23:45 so this was a night ride; my first night commute. There was really nothing worthy of any comment apart from the lack of lighting through Burgess Park and the middle section of the riverside walk. Saw a lot of foxes, particularly on the southern part of the route. It was nearly 01:00 before I got home. Far too late.

The London Cycling Campaign has published its new website. It’s early days and seems
a bit lean on content but I think the new fresh look is very nice. They have a new logo it is simple, which I quite like. The grey and red colour scheme is perhaps not quite as imaginative as
might have been, but it does give it an air of gravitas. I do wonder if they will regret the change. The old logo is well known and represents all the work that has been achieved down the years. Will a rebrand mean that the
campaign will once again have to force its way into a market space which had previously been already conquered.

My daughter’s friend has come good with another pair of top class tickets to Lords on Sunday. My brother and I watched the final of the Clydesdale Bank 40 final last year - Warwickshire beat Somerset by 3 wickets. Tomorrow Mrs TyT and I are off to day 3 of an enthralling test match/series against Sri Lanka (Ceylon in old money). I shall pop out to get the salad stuff for a picnic later on. Lemon roast chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, toms, cucumber. Champagne for her and ginger beer for me. Hmmm! Yes please.

TyT
