I have done 17 cycling
commutes this month. So taking weekends into account that is very good; more
than 2 in 3 commutes being on the bike. My total mileage for the month is 506, but
this includes some leisure cycling too. I'm pleased with that.

February 2013
I have just
realised how long it is since I put up an entry here. I guess I gave this up at
about the time I left the Cycle Chat Forum. Anyway I always enjoyed writing
stuff to go here so I shall be more attentive in future.
I have managed 15
cycling commutes in February. Bearing in mind it has been a very cold month with
days of ice and snow I’m fairly relaxed about this. I’m also very busy at work
and with evening meetings at this time of year. So all in all its cycling which
seems to suffer.
Against this I
have managed 31 cycle commutes in 2013 which is 3 times more than this time in
2012. I have managed in excess of 520 cycling miles. I say in excess because it
wasn’t until mid January that I finally realised what was causing the trouble with
my cycling computers; viz the pulsing of the front light.
I have been out
on a number of leisure rides and enjoyed them a lot, and in an hours time I'm going
out for another with Pollards Hill Cyclists.

My September Rides (week 37)
Helmet Survey...
...see what my stats reveal
This week I have been doing a small survey of helmet wearing in South East London between 6.40 - 7.25 am and during the return journey in the evening at whatever time it occurs: nothing scientific just a count of how many in each category as I make my way to and from work.

My September Rides (week 36)
Speed limits
.......we are far from beyond reproach
Speed is a subject I shall return to time and again in these pages. It worries me a lot. Speed is a contributory factor in every single road accident bar none. Sometimes very low speeds are involved; but for a collision to occur there must be some vehicle movement.

My September Rides (week 35)
Failure to maintain a bike is a risky business.
Usually you get away with it; sometimes you won’t.
I saw a man cycling over Waterloo Bridge one day this week (he actually overtook me) he was on a Brommie I think. He was standing on the pedals but not really ‘going for it’ which looked a bit odd. Then on a second look I realised he didn’t actually have a saddle on his bike. The stem was there and indeed the saddle mounting bracket but as for a seat – none; amazing.
